Options Press Release

April is National Sexual Assault Awareness Month. Beginning today, Options Domestic & Sexual Violence Services is opening submissions for a poster contest to go along with an interactive art installation for community members during the Spring Art Walk. The purpose of the contest and the art installation is to bring awareness of sexual assault to Northwest Kansas.
The poster contest will focus on the importance of consent and healthy boundaries. Consent is giving permission or agreeing to do something and being comfortable with that decision. Healthy boundaries are reasonable, safe, and permissible ways for other people to behave around them and how they will respond when someone steps outside those limits.
The interactive art installation will allow participants to express their trauma by drawing, tearing, writing, or painting on a wedding dress or tuxedo during the Spring Art Walk. The finished product of this interactive project will be featured during the Summer Art Walk with the Wonder Women League.Submissions for the poster contest start today and will run through Monday, March 28, 2022. Options plans to host an event during the Spring Art Walk in April 2022 to unveil the posters to the public. Those wishing to participate in the poster contest may submit one 18-inch by 24-inch poster. Posters must be original designs and can be created with any of the following medias: painting, collage 3-dimensional collages (must not rise more than 1 inch off paper), drawing, photograph, or any digital program (examples; Pixlr, Photoshop, Canva, Inkscape, Microsoft Paint, SketchPad, etc.).
All poster entries will be featured throughout the month of April on Options’ social media. Posters will be displayed along with an interactive art installation event on April 30 th during the Hays Arts Council Spring Art Walk in Hays, Kansas. Winning artist will receive a professional print of their poster. Options will also display the winning poster at events and information tables throughout Northwest Kansas, and at their offices in Hays and Colby.
