WPAA Upcoming Shows
Christmastime is here and the Western Plains Arts Association invites you to swing into the season with After Midnight, and then celebrate “Away in a basement” with the hilarious Church Basement Ladies.
Both programs are made possible through major grants from The Dane G. Hansen Foundation and the Greater Northwest Kansas Community Foundations for Logan County and Thomas County. Admission for each program is by WPAA season ticket or adults $20, students $10 at the door.
After Midnight swing band
After Midnight, Colorado’s premier swing band, will share their infectious music Sunday, Dec. 3 at 3 p.m. central at the Cultural Arts Center, Colby.
Award winning clarinetist Roger Campbell leads the hottest jazz band since the swing Era. Colorado’s Premier Swing Band is the only sextet featured in the Colorado Music Hall of Fame at Red Rocks. Swinging hard for nearly 25 years, this extraordinary group of musicians has performed hundreds of concerts. They conquer dizzying charts by the likes of Benny Goodman, Artie Shaw, Lionel Hampton, Nat King Cole, Frank Sinatra and Tony Bennett. You’ll hear great swing music recently made popular by the likes of Dianna Krall, Michael BublĂ©, and Harry Connick Jr.

Church Basement Ladies
Mark your holiday calendar for Thursday, Dec. 7. The Church Basement Ladies are returning to Oakley High School Auditorium at 7:30 p.m. central with “Away in a Basement.”

Local Artists Wanted for Monthly Art Walk
COLBY -- Artists from northwest Kansas are invited to show their pieces in the Nov. 16 Third Thursday Gallery Art Walk at the Colby Community College gallery.
"Every piece will be local," said CCC art instructor Rebel Mahieu. "We want artists at all levels—amateur and professional, and all mediums are welcome."

Halloween Events
Downtown Trick or Treat on Halloween!
The Downtown Business Association, City of Colby and Colby/Thomas County Chamber invite kids 12 and under to downtown Colby for Downtown Trick or Treat on Halloween! Participating businesses will have a special flier on display in their window. Free trick or treat bags will be handed out in front of Colby City Hall. The event runs from 4 to 6 p.m.

July 4th Celebrations
Celebrate July 4th at Lake Atwood
Plan a day of fun at Lake Atwood the Fourth of July. There will be bike races for youngsters,evening blue train rides around the lake for kids, horseshoe tournament, food vendors, a patriotic salute to America, talent show and live music before a spectacular fireworks display at dark. Everything is free except the food.

Two Juveniles in Custody for Atwood School Fire
June 7, 2023 - A joint investigation with the Office of the State Fire Marshal, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, the Atwood Police Department, and the Rawlins County Sheriff's Office have completed the investigation of the fire that occurred on Monday at the Rawlins County/Atwood Jr and Sr High School.
The cause of the fire has been determined to be incendiary, or Arson.
