Midwest Energy Appeals to Customers to Conserve Electricity, Natural Gas

With record-breaking cold expected to grip much of the country through mid-week, Midwest Energy is asking customers whose health permits to turn thermostats down a bit, and to not use appliances with heavy electricity consumption, beginning at 12:01 a.m. Monday, Feb. 15 and continuing through mid- week.

Western Plains Arts Association announces the late cancellation of Nashville Legacy that was scheduled for 3 p.m., Sunday, Feb. 14 at Oakley High School due to extreme weather conditions. The musicians plan to reschedule the country program that features the music of Floyd Cramer and Chet Atkins with WPAA during the next season.

Helping Paws Food Bank

Helping Paws pet food bank is in need of dry dog and cat food, and cat litter. Supplies can be brought to the Colby Methodist Church during office hours or picked up. The pet food bank is open on Wednesdays from noon to 1 p.m. and 4:30 to 5:30 p.m.. For more information, you can call (785) 460-2761 or email office@colbyumc.org.

A marimba quartet called Marimbas Sol de Chiapas, North America's premier professional Mexican marimba ensemble, will perform an eclectic variety of music

Notice for Kansans

Beginning on October 26th through October 30th, the Atwood Police Department will join other Kansas law enforcement agencies to stop what has been likened to an epidemic in Kansas. In 2019, 8 children ages 0-13 lost their lives due to car crashes in Kansas. Sadly, 62% of those children were not wearing their seat belts. 

Press Release: Rawlins County Health Needs Assessment (CHNA)

County Seeking Local Input on Health Needs
Rawlins County is conducting a Community Health Needs Assessment (CHNA) from October 1 through 31. The purpose of this assessment is to identify major community health challenges, gaps in service, and other factors that may contribute to unmet health needs locally.
“We hope that every Rawlins County resident, ages 18 and over, will participate in the survey,” said Karla Heble, Rawlins County Health Officer. “All of the health service providers in the county - whether medical, dental, vision, or other alternative medicine – need to understand what the true needs of our residents are, what prevents people from receiving care, and how we can improve services to better meet those needs.”
