Kansas Day at Thresher Show Grounds
Kansas Day will be celebrated Thursday, Jan. 29 at the Thresher Show Grounds in Bird City. The event is presented by the Tri-State Antique Engine & Thresher Association and the Cheylin sixth grade class. There will be presentations by a local historian, and about butter making, Kansas animals, a printing press, and corn shelling as well as a Home on the Range singalong and Kansas games and BINGO. The sixth graders make their presentations at 9 a.m. and all other activities begin at 9:30 a.m. Planned events include: Blaine Ginther: Local historian; McCarty Dairy: Butter making; Rolling Hills Zoo: Kansas animals; Ron Smith: Printing press; Gerald Wright: Corn shelling.

Mental Health First Aid Course
Youth Mental Health First Aid, course offered free for adults who interact with young people. It will be held from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 17 at SurePoint Electronics. Sponsored by Rawlins County Prevention board. Call 785-628-2871 for more details.
Commodities to be Distributed in Atwood on Jan. 27

Storm Spotter Classes Beginning
The National Weather Service has released the schedule for area training sessions. They are for people of all ages who would like to become trained spotters. The session in Atwood will begin at 6:30 p.m. Friday, March 6 at the courthouse.
Sessions will be presented by trainers for the National Weather Service in Goodland. An added feature this year is radar analysis. During the class, trainees will learn about severe weather and gain knowledge about how to protect their neighborhood. There is no charge to take the class. Additionally, those who take the class have an opportunity to become an official Nation al Weather Service Skywarn Storm Spotter.

• The Rawlins County Shuttle offers convenient transportation to anybody in Rawlins County. The shuttle travels all over Rawlins County and is free to county residents.
• 24 hour notice is greatly appreciated, but not completely necessary. Rides are given on a first come first serve basis with no special designations for priority trips such as medical or other appointments.
