April is National Sexual Assault Awareness Month. Beginning today, Options Domestic & Sexual Violence Services is opening submissions for a poster contest to go along with an interactive art installation for community members during the Spring Art Walk. The purpose of the contest and the art installation is to bring awareness of sexual assault to Northwest Kansas.
The poster contest will focus on the importance of consent and healthy boundaries. Consent is giving permission or agreeing to do something and being comfortable with that decision. Healthy boundaries are reasonable, safe, and permissible ways for other people to behave around them and how they will respond when someone steps outside those limits.
The interactive art installation will allow participants to express their trauma by drawing, tearing, writing, or painting on a wedding dress or tuxedo during the Spring Art Walk. The finished product of this interactive project will be featured during the Summer Art Walk with the Wonder Women League.
