NIRA Rodeo Coming to Colby Sept. 12-14

Approximately 450 contestants from 17 colleges across Kansas and Oklahoma will converge at the E.L. Garrett Arena in the Thomas County Fairgrounds for the annual Colby Community College National Intercollegiate Rodeo Association (NIRA) Rodeo on Sept. 12 through 14. The competition begins at 7 p.m. every night, with the top 12 in each event vying for top honors on the 14th.

Men's competitions include bareback bronc riding, tie-down roping, saddle bronc riding, steer wrestling, team roping, and bull riding. Women will compete in breakaway roping, goat tying, team roping, and barrel racing.

Tickets can be purchased at Vanderbilt's of Colby or at the gate. Adult tickets cost $10, while children's tickets (ages 6-12) are $5. Admission is free for children under five.

Lecture Series on Tuesday, September 10th
Author and former Kansas Magistrate Judge Tommy Webb is the featured speaker as part of Colby Community College's Dr. Max Pickerill Lectures Series. Judge Webb’s presentation begins at 7 PM, on campus at the H.F. Davis Memorial Library. His dynamic message to value and appreciate the qualities of other people is delivered with a sense of humor that will be inspiring, thought-provoking, and entertaining. Judge Webb served four years in the United States Marine Corps from 1970 to 1974 and was first elected in 1988. He served consecutive terms before retiring in 2016 with the distinction of being the first Asian judge for Kansas. Today, he speaks throughout the United States, sharing his inspirational message. CCC's 60th Anniversary Celebration
In recognition of Colby Community College’s 60th anniversary, the public is invited to help celebrate from 10 AM. to 2 PM at Beatrice Davis Clock Tower in the center of campus on Saturday, September 21st. Commemorative T-shirts will be handed out during the event. The schedule includes youth activities, bouncy houses, a photo booth, tours of the campus and the college farm, and a free meal and ice cream bar from 11:30 AM. to 1 PM. The men’s basketball team will have an open practice at 8 AM at the Colby Event Center, and the Trojans baseball and softball teams have home games that begin at 1PM on the City of Colby Fields.
