Spring is here, schools are closed and more people are at home due to the CVOID-19 response. Getting outside to get exercise is perfect but be safe doing it.
· Walk on sidewalks whenever possible
· If you are walking on the road, walk facing traffic as far from the traffic as you can get.
· Cross streets at crosswalks of intersections.
· Assume drivers cannot see you
· Wear bright reflective clothing



Veterans Day Events (Colby, Atwood and Bird City)

Saturday, November 9th: Veterans Parade in Colby

The Colby American Legion, Post 363 and VFW, Post 6882 will host the annual Veterans
Day Parade at 11:00 a.m. In an effort to honor all local veterans who have served
our country, all community businesses and organizations or interested individuals
are encouraged to participate in and/or attend the parade. Line-up for the parade
will be at Fike Park and parade participants should be there by 10:30 a.m. The parade
route will travel from Fike Park on North Franklin to the Thomas County Courthouse
where a brief ceremony will be held. Following the ceremony a light fellowship luncheon
will be held at the American Legion Post #363, 1850 West 4th.

Monday, November 11th: Reception in Bird City

The Commander of American Legion Post 352 Bird City is hosting a “Get to know your Veteran” reception at the American Legion Hall in Bird City on Monday, November 11th at 1 pm. He’ll present an explaination about the meaning of the 13 folds of the American flag, the Code of Conduct, the small P.O.W./M.I.A. Remembrance table and The Historical Association Veterans Collection. Public welcome and encouraged to attend and ask questions. Find out more about YOUR local veteran. Nov 11th at 1:00 p.m. Coffee and cookies will be provided.

Sunday, November 10th: A Tribute to Veterans/Hometown Gospel Show

Sunday, Nov. 10, 2019, “A Tribute to Veterans/Hometown Gospel Show” will be held at 2:00 pm. in Frahm Theatre at Colby Community College. Prelude piano music will begin at 1:30 pm. The program will feature several area musical acts as well as guest speaker, Rick Austin, a veteran and Veterans Service Representative for Northwest Kansas. Wheelchair escorts will be available; please meet the escorts in the handicapped parking lot just south of Frahm Theatre, if a wheelchair is needed. Admission is a freewill donation for the general public, and Veterans are FREE. Veterans are encouraged to wear their uniform, service medals or cap. The concert is sponsored by the CCC Music Department and is a Pickin’ on the Plains fundraiser. Monday, November 11th: Veterans Day Program

The public is invited to a Veterans Day Program at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, November 11th at the Rawlins County Elementary School. Veterans are invited to come to the school early from 8:30 to 9:45 a.m. for coffee and rolls!

The Atwood Legion invites the public to a Veterans Day Ham and Bean Feed from 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m. on Monday, November 11th at the Legion Hall.
